Visit this page to read a little about our discipleship process at New Horizon.
|
When Jesus told his followers to go out and build up other followers, he pretty much left it up to them to determine the best way to accomplish the task. He didn't tell them specifically how to build up disciples, he just told them to do it.
At New Horizon our approach to building up dedicated followers of Jesus involves three basic ideas: connecting, equipping, and serving. We believe that if our church family does a good job of motivating people in these areas, then we will be effectively building up dedicated followers of Jesus.
The idea of connecting has to do with building healthy relationships with other people. Our desire is that the people who call New Horizon their church home would be in the process of building committed relationships with others, relationships that will have lasting impact in the lives of those involved.
In many cases connecting is the first step of commitment we ask people to make. It is so important to establish meaningful and healthy relationships with people in your church family. In fact, it is sometimes ineffective or even harmful to begin equipping and serving without first developing relationships with people in your church.
At New Horizon we work hard to be effective equippers. We believe that God causes authentic growth to take place within the church by equipping the people in that church to minister to each other. When we use the word "equip" at New Horizon we are thinking in terms of giving people the motivation, ability, and opportunity to minister effectively to other people.
If you have been connecting with the people of New Horizon and you feel you are ready to make meaningful impact in their lives, we encourage you to seek out an opportunity to be equipped to do so. Equipping is a lifelong process and is absolutely essential to the health of any church.
Serving is key part of our discipleship process. Without the generous service of volunteers, nothing we do would get done! More importantly, we would not be able to positively influence the spiritual transformation of people who are part of our church family.
When you make a commitment to serve, you are accepting the very ancient call of others-oriented sacrifice that Jesus first gave to his disciples almost 2,000 years ago. For generations Christians all over the world have taken the call to service seriously and we challenge you to do the same.
